It is almost 3 years since Dr Nishari Wijewardena joined the team at Smithfield Medical Centre. In that time, she has become well known in the local community as a very thorough, caring, easy to talk to & friendly GP. She goes over & above to help her patients, always with a smile on her face.
Over the last 10 years of working as a doctor, Dr Nishari has developed skills and special interests in women’s health, child & adolescent health, pregnancy planning, pregnancy care, chronic disease management, work cover medicine, mental health, aged care medicine and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.
Outside of work, Dr Nishari loves to dabble in art and in fact one of her art works hang in her office at Smithfield Medical Centre. One of Dr Nishari’s favourite other past times is spending time outdoors, especially in the water. This year, Dr Nishari & her husband are also devoting some of their free time to enhancing the social opportunities of local disabled people in Cairns.
